Being able to navigate confidently in the mountains is not only an important skill but a liberating one as well. You will be able to plan a journey 'off the beaten track' and identify a suitable route to take as well as being able to find a route to safety in poor weather.
We offer 2 navigation courses as detailed below.
Introduction To Navigation - 1 Day
This course is aimed at those with little or no experience navigating previously and will take you through the fundamentals of navigation in the mountains. Topics include:
- Different types of map available
- Grid references and what they mean
- Identifying features from map to ground
- Orientation and relocating yourself
- Using a compass
Price: £35 per person, minimum group size 3
Intermediate Navigation - 1 Day
This course is aimed at those with a basic understanding of navigation already and wish to improve upon that. Topics include:
- Timing a distance
- Pacing a distance
- Identifying micro features on the map and relaying that to the ground
- Contour lines and what they mean
- Navigation strategy
Price: £40 per person, minimum group size 3
Location
Our navigation courses are held around Perth & Dundee where the hills of the Sma' Glen or the Sidlaws provide an easy to access yet challenging terrain for navigating.
